Sire Ratings

Post Time Daily's past performances include two Sire Ratings for each horse: Off-Track and Turf, which assess that runner's likelihood of success on those respective surfaces.

How Ratings Are Calculated

The rating methodology is proprietary to Post Time Daily. Each sire (primary sire, grandsire, and damsire) receives an individual rating based on its track record producing successful offspring on the given surface. These three ratings combine into a single value for the runner being evaluated. Monthly recalculations occur based on offspring performance data.

When to Use Sire Ratings

Important: Sire Ratings serve horses with minimal or no experience on a given surface. Once a horse has established itself on a given surface, reliance on that horse's actual performance, as opposed to their pedigree, is strongly recommended.

Turf Ratings

  • Typical range: 70-270
  • Noteworthy threshold: 220+
  • Higher-class races typically produce runners with elevated ratings
  • Significant indicator: A 15+ point gap between the top-rated runner and field competitors matters more than absolute numbers

Off-Track Ratings

  • Typical range: 100-280
  • Noteworthy threshold: 250+
  • Significant indicator: A 20+ point gap between the top-rated runner and remaining competitors

Missing Ratings

When one or both ratings are unavailable, it reflects insufficient data on a sire. Ratings generate once information accumulates.
